This may seem a little biased as I'm a Curves coach, but honestly I wanted to share my experience after recently reaching my 100th workout milestone. Curves celebrates every milestone and achievement, which makes the journey feel even more rewarding. The Curves circuit is always full of energy, and the hydraulic resistance equipment makes it suitable for all fitness levels. When I first started, working out definitely wasn't my favourite thing, but it has now become a part of my lifestyle. What makes Curves really special is the supportive, family-like environment. Every new member is welcomed and made to feel accepted. I remember being nervous when I first walked through the door because I'm not particularly muscular or naturally sporty, but I was made to feel comfortable from day one. Everyone was friendly, encouraging, and genuinely wanted to see me succeed. The support and service are amazing. You're always working alongside a coach who is there to guide, encourage, and motivate you. Reaching my 100th workout is something I'm really proud of, and I look forward to many more milestones to come and many more memories... ♡♡

After months of sitting a lot following various injuries and family illnesses, I was doing little exercise, (apart from walking a few times a week and attending a weekly chair yoga class). I noticed I had lost a lot of my strength. When I couldn't get up to stand on a chair to put things away in the cupboard above the wardrobe, I knew I had to take action to redress this. My balance was very poor, and I was constantly afraid of falling again and sustaining further injury. Five weeks ago, I rejoined Curves (I had gone before many years ago) and received a friendly welcome from my coach, Sally, who genuinely seemed to want to see me regain my strength and balance. I felt very well supported and encouraged by both her and the other coaches. There is no pressure to compete with others. I was guided on using each machine to gain maximum benefit. I was both amazed and delighted to see definite improvements in my strength and muscle tone practically straight away - and the buzzing feeling after the workouts is great. Now, five weeks later, I am eager to go to workouts. Not only do they improve my strength and balance, but my motivation has improved, my posture is better and I feel fabulous! I would say to anyone contemplating strength training to give Curves a try. Like me, you might get hooked 😉

*Edit (2026) - 3.5 years after joining and another baby later, I am still loving Curves! It’s harder to find the time, but I make sure I prioritise myself and my health! (2022) I joined curves 3 months after having a baby. I was tired, recovering, didn’t fit in any of my clothes and REALLY didn’t want to join a gym. Curves appealed as it’s a 30 minute circuit and you only spend 30 seconds on a machine so you can’t get bored. My aim was to do 6 months then quit. Fast forward 8 months and I am loving it! Down 2 dress sizes, more active than ever and I really look forward to going 3 times a week! I love the energy of the circuit, the people and how great I’m feeling. If you want to make some positive changes to your health I highly recommend joining Curves, I’m so glad I did!

Curves Ilkeston is a great place to go even if you have a medical condition. I have recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and the Nurse Specialist I saw at QMC recently said that what I do at Curves is ideal as it strength training so ideal for sustaining good bone health. The Coaches have been great and I’ve had some 1 to 1 sessions which have really helped my technique and confidence!!!!

I have never looked back since joining Curves 8 months ago. The coaches are brilliant and always there to give you support and help when you need it. Whatever your capability or level of fitness you are made to feel welcome in a lovely atmosphere. There's always plenty of laughs with the lovely ladies. I recommend giving it a go; it's never too late to get started and build up your strength.

I joined Curves nearly 2 years ago, 70 years of age. I suffer with osteoporosis so my bones aren't great. In myright shoulder I had hardly any movement/strength and I was told that I would need a new shoulder 😫 since being a member of the 30 minute crew I have movement and strength 💪 everything about Curves is amazing from the coaches to the people who attend (all ages), take the step through that door and you will be amazed how welcoming it is 🙂 it is not just about losing weight it's about health and mental wellbeing💞 why not give it a try💪🙂👏👌 Jackie Spencer

A year after joining Curves, I can honestly say it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. The coaches are incredibly supportive and genuinely care about you as a person, not just your results. I’ve grown stronger and more confident. It’s such a welcoming, inclusive environment, and I always leave feeling better than when I walked in. Thank you to the amazing team for making such a positive difference in my life
FAQ

Got questions about your Curves fitness club? We've got answers

A women-only environment removes the self-consciousness that often comes with mixed-sex gyms. At Curves, there are no mirrors, no judgement and no distractions, just a supportive community built around women’s bodies, women’s goals and women’s lives. Every aspect of the programme, from the equipment to the coaching, is designed specifically for female physiology. That expertise is what makes the difference.

The Curves circuit combines strength training and cardio in a single 30-minute session. This approach builds lean muscle, supports cardiovascular health and helps maintain bone density, benefits that matter at every age but become increasingly valuable over time. Every machine adapts to your individual effort level, so each workout is effective whether it is your first session or your hundredth.

Curves welcomes women from their late teens through to their 80s and beyond. The programme is designed to adapt to every stage of life, from building early fitness habits to staying strong and mobile through menopause and into retirement. There is no upper age limit, because strength and wellbeing matter at every age.

Curves was built for all fitness levels. A coach is present at every session to guide you through each machine, correct your form and adjust the intensity to your current abilities. You do not need any prior experience or fitness background. Every member starts somewhere, and the whole programme is designed to meet you there.

Most members notice real changes within a few weeks, including better energy, improved strengthbetter sleep quality and a more positive mood. Visible physical results typically follow with consistent attendance of two to three sessions per week. Progress looks different for everyone, but with a coach supporting each visit and a structured programme to follow, results are measurable and steady.

Curves clubs offer structured circuit sessions throughout the day, so there is plenty of choice to fit around work, family and daily life. Because each session takes just 30 minutes, it is easy to fit exercise into a busy schedule, whether before work, during a lunch break or on the way home. Speak to your coach to find the session times that work best for you.
