The Curves workout combines strength training with cardio activity and stretching – all in just 30 minutes – to create lean muscle, raise your metabolism, burn more fat and tone your body. By getting stronger, increasing your flexibility and working to prevent injury, you are setting the stage for your healthier, more active future.
The Curves programme includes all five components of a complete workout – warm-up, strength training, cardiovascular training, cool-down and stretching – just in 30 minutes. You change stations every 30 seconds, allowing you to recover and work out different muscle groups.
You’ll work every major muscle group while keeping your heart rate within your target training zone. And with a circuit coach to teach and motivate you at every workout, you are sure to reach your fitness goals in no time. Whether you want to gain energy, tone up or lose weight, the Curves circuit will work for you.
Studies show that regular physical activity, such as the three-day-a-week Curves programme, substantially reduces the risk of conditions including coronary heart disease, stroke, colon cancer, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and high blood pressure. It also helps to control weight; contributes to healthy bones, muscles and joints; helps to relieve the pain of arthritis; and reduces the symptoms of anxiety and depression.
The machines are manufactured specifically for Curves and are designed for safety, simplicity and effectiveness, automatically adjusting to every fitness level. The equipment provides the benefits of cardiovascular exercise and weight training with the safe movement of hydraulic resistance, giving an effective workout while protecting bones and joints.
Specially designed for women, each low-impact machine works at least two muscle groups and as many as four at one time because you push and pull, rather than lift and lower weight. Alternating upper body, lower body and core muscles, the Curves circuit provides a full body workout in just 30 minutes.
Curves also offers classes such as Body Basics and Body Balance within the circuit. These classes offer members an opportunity for more exercise without using the machines, expending extra energy but still not overloading muscles. Movements are completed using just your body weight and concentrate on upper, middle, or lower body. Movements are simple and have various levels of difficulty so ALL members can enjoy and benefit from the classes.
At Curves there's always a coach in the circuit to help you train and motivate you – you're never alone. She'll help you with your form and push you to your personal best. If you pair this exercise with the Meal Plans through Curves Complete, you’ll love the results you see.
The Curves programme delivers proven results. It’s been extensively studied in the Exercise and Sports Nutrition Laboratory at Texas A&M University. How it started
The innovators of the first 30-minute circuit workout, Gary and Diane Heavin, share a passion for fitness and a commitment to women’s health which led them to open the original Curves in 1992 in Harlingen, Texas.
Their innovative, 30-minute full body workout
, combines strength training and sustained cardiovascular activity using safe and effective hydraulic resistance machines. The first club became a success because it gave women a supportive and comfortable atmosphere in which to work out.
When their second club also turned into an immediate success, they knew they had tapped a market that wasn’t being served by traditional gyms, and that they could help millions of women worldwide. To achieve this they needed to find passionate people who could help these women in their communities, and teach them how to run a Curves club. Gary and Diane turned the business into a franchise and the first independently owned and operated Curves opened in Paris, Texas, in 1995. Curves has been expanding ever since and you will now find it in more than 80 countries with more than 5,000 clubs.
