Fall in love with your stronger self this summer

Although it may not seem like it, summer is the perfect time for playing sports. Longer days, summer office hours, holidays… we have more free time than ever and therefore fewer excuses not to exercise.

Yet you may not fancy the thought of being outside on those sweltering hot summer days. Curves therefore offers the ideal solution for overcoming such high temperatures without having to forgo maintaining your fitness goals. Whether your goal is to lose weight or to simply tone up, the Curves circuit is ideal for exercising this summer in the comfort of an air-conditioned room.

Curves, the perfect place for training this summer

Here are some reasons why Curves is the perfect place for training this summer.

If you are looking for something fun to do over the long summer months, come to Curves and join a group of sports enthusiasts in an environment offering continuous support. One of our coaches will be on hand to teach you how to use the machines properly and to guide you through what you need to do to achieve your goals.

Escape the stress of city life

If you have a typically hectic city lifestyle you may feel overwhelmed by the amount of summer activities at your disposal. To combat this pointless stress, what could be better than taking some time out and doing a Curves circuit? Come to Curves to escape the stress of the city while also doing something positive for your health. Exercising regularly can improve your mood, and also keep your body in peak physical condition. If you are feeling a bit low this summer, and stuck in a rut, come and train with us and try something new.

Strength training

If you just want to maintain your weight but improve your general fitness, come to Curves and try our circuit; it will help you tone up and strengthen your muscles. If you spend the summer working on your strength and flexibility, you'll still be slim and agile after the holidays.

There are countless benefits to strength training but when we put together our exercise routine this type of training is usually sidelined or at the very least given far less time than cardiovascular training. To avoid falling into this trap, here is a list of reasons why strength training should be prioritised.

Fall in love with your stronger self

Strength training is very positive for your body. It can improve your bone density and reduce the signs and symptoms of chronic conditions such as arthritis, back pain, diabetes and depression. And yes, it also helps keep your weight under control. If those reasons are not enough to convince you, here are some tips to help you fall in love with strength training

  • Get a friend involved in strength training Bringing along a friend to strength training will not only spur you on to keep going, but will also probably make you work harder and achieve better results.
  • Do it as part of a group. What’s even better than exercising with a friend is exercising with a whole fitness group as a member of a community like Curves. According to a study by the University of Zaragoza, the group factor has a positive effect on sport, more specifically, the study argues that “Family recognition, social prestige and the feeling of belonging to a group are determining factors in terms of sporting habits”.
  • Reap the beauty benefits of strength training. Recent studies show that when you work your muscles you trigger the production of a substance called myokine. Myokines make the skin look firmer and younger, therefore exercise will directly benefit your appearance, making you look younger and healthier.
  • Get yourself motivated. To successfully complete the last sets in your daily strength workout, the ones you really struggle with because they are the ones requiring greater strength, you need to give yourself a good talking to. Remind yourself of your goals, whether it is your target weight or simply to get stronger. Tell yourself that you can do it and that a little bit of pain is worth the gain to achieve a healthier life and a more active future.

Despite being aware of all the positives of strength training, there may be days when we’re just not up for it. For greater motivation, the Curves community is ideal. Talk to your coach for advice on how to do the exercises properly. And remember, you only need a 30-minute workout, 2% of your day, and you'll feel 100% better in body, mind and spirit.
