In May 2014, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis. I was overweight and unhappy, and my health was deteriorating fast. While I was in hospital receiving treatment, I remember a doctor telling me that I would need to lose weight to fight this illness for good.


I took his advice. In July 2014, I joined Curves and told them about my health problems. For me, joining Curves was about fighting my illness and being healthy – not about being skinny. I was scared and self-conscious at first, but the support I received from the coaches at my local club was absolutely incredible. I signed up for the Curves Complete programme for six months and gained access to some of the best tasting diet plans I’ve ever tried.


The weight dropped off and it only took me one year to lose more than 80lbs. Of course, I had good weeks and I had bad weeks. One week I “only” lost 1.5lbs, even though I’d worked so hard. I burst into tears, but the coach made sure I wasn’t discouraged. She said it was losing inches that mattered, not pounds – that has stuck with me ever since. I’ve completely changed my lifestyle and I factor Curves in when I’ve had a relapse in my illness. I genuinely believe joining was the best decision I’ve ever made. I tell all my friends about it and I’ve made more friends through Curves and doing the classes, which is highly motivating.


Ladies at my club have said that I’m the reason they joined, normally I don’t like blowing my own trumpet, but I’m so proud of my achievements.

If I, a lazy couch potato, can do this – then anyone can. There are no excuses!
