What are you doing for the European Week of Sport?

  • News

Following the success of its first few years, the European Week of Sport is back for its fourth year! Across Europe, from the 23rd to the 30th of September, people of all backgrounds, fitness levels and ages are getting involved in sport in their community to tackle the most prevalent issues at play in our society, today. Going beyond the known benefits of sport for our physical sport, the European Week of Sports 2018 looks to use exercise as a vehicle for curing deeper societal ills, including isolation, racism and environmental problems. It is through participating in sports that we grow a sense of community spirit and responsibility, along with team work and understanding. By encouraging these values through the medium of sport, we convey an important message in a fun and active way!

During this celebratory Week of Sport, communities will benefit from the opportunity to try a whole host of different and exciting sports, gaining exposure to activities they’ve never had the chance to try before. Wondering how to be active this European Week of Sport? Is there something you’ve always wanted to give a go but been too nervous? Now is your chance to get involved! There is a vast range of sports week activities on offer, from sports days in schools to basketball, so there will be no shortage of opportunity! And if social media is more your thing, there’s fun activities there too including The SelfTree challenge, where runners are encouraged to take a selfie with the most beautiful tree they find, as well as The Race Challenge, where you and your colleagues must compete in a fierce desk chair race! If you’re participating in any of these be sure to #BeActive, and spread awareness of the incredible benefits of sport to leading a happy and healthy life.

And at Curves, we’ve been swept up in all this fantastic fitness fever as well! During the European Week of Fitness, Curves will be offering a full week FREE to new members at participating clubs.
