Supporting other women helps boost your own self-confidence!
It might seem counterintuitive, but supporting others and helping them to reach their goals also gives you a real boost to your own self-esteem. In fact, a key component of people feeling valued and worthy is a sense of belonging and being welcomed into a particular social group, being friends with a wider selection of people and having common interests – and that sums up Curves perfectly!
This feel-good factor is further reinforced when you sense you have a vital role to play within family, peer groups or wider community. So if you contribute positively into other people’s lives and have empathy for others, your own self-confidence grows. What’s not to love about that?
Offering praise and appreciation to other women will improve your relationships
Imagine you walk into a new setting – let’s take your local Curves gym for example – and someone immediately compliments you on your hair, your gym bag, or your latest Curves milestone, how would you feel? It automatically has a positive impact and puts you in a better frame of mind, right? Not only is your mood lifted by such a simple interaction, but studies have shown that both the person offering the compliment and the person receiving it experience a spike in their dopamine levels, so both parties feel better about themselves! Offering compliments means you’re more likely to receive them back too, so why not pick out something you’ve always admired about someone and go tell them. You’ll both get a boost!
Avoid blaming and criticising others for their mistakes
This shouldn’t be difficult to do. But for some people, the temptation to criticise others is too great. There is a downside though. Like giving a compliment, it has an effect on both sides. And all this negativity can be so mentally draining. So if you know someone that’s constantly criticising others, try and gently nudge them out of that habit by maybe offering them a compliment, that could be enough to slightly change their mindset.
Accept women for who they are, and don’t try to change them
Accepting someone for who they are, ‘faults’ and all, is one way to help you regain focus on the more important things in life, rather than continuously dwelling on the past or on something you can’t change. Accepting this also helps you accept your own imperfections – no one’s perfect after all – and it can also strengthen your self-esteem.
