Valentine's Day is almost here! The day to celebrate all things love <3 Whether you have a special someone in your life or wish to celebrate with a friend (over a zoom call to keep social distance in place) make the most of the occasion and share a delicious and nutritious picnic for Valentine’s Day.

Yes, we know it might still be too cold for an outdoor picnic; which is why we thought you could make all your romantic picnic dreams come true indoors this year. Transform your living room or bedroom into a bohemian romantic paradise layering blankets and cushions. Play your favourite playlist and get started!

Set the Mood

Bring your picnic basket and all your utensils just as if you were heading outside. There is no picnic without a proper wicker basket! Pluck the petals off roses and scatter the petals around the perimeter of your picnic area or blanket. Place several candles strategically around the room and have everything at hands reach to minimize trips to the kitchen.

Preparing your Picnic

Think of snacks that don't require the use of any utensils. Nuts, dark chocolate, a cheese plate, or a charcuterie board with olives and fresh fruit are perfect picnic snacks. Leave the chips out of the equation, and opt for hummus and carrots instead.

Eat smart, did you know fruits count among some of the most sensual foods? Theme your choices:

  • Go for red with strawberries
  • Pink with pink lady apple slices with peanut butter
  • Grab some aphrodisiacs like pomegranates, kiwis and cherries

Cheese and grapes create the perfect ambience for a romantic Valentine's Day picnic. However, be wary of cheese fat content.

Healthy Fats

Avocados are full of healthy, beneficial fats that help to keep you full and satiated. Why not make an easy guacamole by mashing avocado and seasoning with salt, pepper and chilli. Chilli is also well known by its many benefits, including the release of endorphins - the happiness hormone. Consuming chillies will increase your heart rate, replicating those feelings of excitement from building lust. Legend has it that Aztec emperor of Mexico, Montezuma, was said to drink a chile and chocolate drink, to have the strength to service his harem of women every day.

Salmon is also another good source of omega-3 fatty acid, which have been shown to reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and decrease disease risk factors. Pair some smoked salmon with cucumber ribbons and creme fraiche for a nutritious picnic snack.

And after your picnic...
